Podcast premiere: Dr. Christian Meyer on modern cardiac medicine and cardiac shock wave therapy (CSWT)
In the podcast format of “Fitness: Chefsache.”, the cardiologist talks about heart health, prevention and new regenerative therapy approaches
Cardiovascular diseases remain one of the most common causes of illness and premature death worldwide. At the same time, cardiac medicine is constantly evolving. Modern diagnostics, new therapeutic approaches and a growing understanding of prevention are now opening up possibilities that were barely conceivable just a few years ago.
In his first podcast, Dr. Christian G. Meyer, a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology as well as a specialist in general medicine at Schlosspraxen Meyer in Hachenburg, talks about precisely these developments. The focus is on questions of heart health, prevention and the role of modern, non-invasive forms of therapy.
Dr. Meyer also clearly explains what actually happens in the body during a heart attack. The cause is usually a suddenly blocked coronary artery, through which part of the heart muscle is no longer supplied with sufficient oxygen. To prevent this from happening in the first place, he emphasizes an important point:
“Most people don’t think about their heart until it’s too late.”

The podcast therefore also deals with the question of how heart health can be assessed at an early stage and that young people from the age of 20 should take a precautionary approach to their heart health. The so-called VO₂ max value, a measure of the body’s maximum oxygen uptake under stress, plays a role here. This value is considered an important marker for physical performance and is increasingly being discussed in preventive medicine and longevity research.
CSWT therapy: New perspectives in cardiac medicine
In keeping with Longevity and the new possibilities of regenerative medicine, one topic of the podcast is cardiac shock wave therapy (CSWT). This procedure uses targeted mechanical impulses to improve blood flow to the heart muscle and trigger the body’s own repair processes.
In the podcast, Dr. Meyer explains in an understandable way for which patient groups such procedures can be considered, what scientific findings are available and why modern cardiac medicine today is increasingly thinking beyond traditional medication and interventions.
